FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQs

How Do I Enroll?

You can enroll for and begin lessons at any time. Brighton Swim Academy does not operate with sessions so there is no start or end date. Once you are enrolled, you will meet at the same time on the same day each week, and you will stay enrolled until you submit a Withdrawal Form. We require 15 days notice to withdraw from lessons.

What Is The Double Diaper Policy?

Children who are not potty-trained or have been potty-trained without accident for less than 6 months are required to wear a double diaper during lessons. A disposable (throw away) swim diaper goes on first, followed by a permanent cloth swim diaper on top. Disposable swim diapers alone do not pass the Board of Health Code for public pools, and the double layer of protection prevents accidents from leaking into the pool. We sell all sizes of disposable and permanent cloth swim diapers at Brighton.

What Can I Expect When I Arrive?

Upon arrival, we will check-in your student(s) and give them each a wristband which indicates the lane in which they will be swimming. If you need to change into your suit or use the restroom, you can do so in our family changing room. Brighton Swim Academy has a family friendly changing room that is located at the left side of the viewing area. It is equipped with four changing stalls and two large water closets outfitted with baby changing stations. Once we are ready for your lesson to begin, a deck supervisor will call your student into the pool area to find the cone that matches their wristband.

What Do We Need For Our First Lesson?

A one-piece bathing suit for girls and swim trunks or jammers for boys. Short-sleeve rash guards are ok. Goggles are recommended, but not required.  Goggles may be helpful in getting a child to put their face in the water and in getting them to open their eyes underwater. There are a variety of goggles for sale in our shop and our staff will be happy to assist you with finding the proper fit for your child. Don’t forget your towel and a change of clothes for after your lesson.

Can I Watch My Child’s Swim Lesson?

Our climate-controlled parent viewing area has large floor-to-ceiling windows where you can watch your child’s lesson. Brighton provides free wi-fi for all customers.  An adult guardian must stay in the building during your child’s lessons. If your child needs assistance using the bathroom during their lesson, we will ask you to come on deck. Children are comforted knowing Mom or Dad is on the other side of the window watching them! Please do not leave the building during your child’s lessons!

What happens if we miss a class? Can we schedule a makeup lesson?

At Brighton Swim Academy, we believe children are most successful in a consistent learning environment. Because of this, we encourage you to attend your regularly scheduled lesson or class as often as possible. We also realize that families sometimes have unavoidable conflicts and cannot attend their lessons. Therefore, we offer one free make-up lesson each month.

  • Scheduling a makeup class can only be done here or by speaking with the front desk

  • We do not guarantee the same teacher for your makeup lesson

  • Makeup lessons expire 60 days following the absence

How long will it take for my child to learn to swim?

Learning to swim is a process. Some children will come to swim lessons with no inhibitions about water and just need skills training while other children will come to swim lessons with some anxiety and need time to develop confidence.

Our curriculum is based on 16-18 lessons (3-4 months) per level. Some children will progress much more quickly while others will take more time to develop comfort being in the water. Whatever the case, we teach each child with a gentle and encouraging approach and recognize that every child is different and has different needs. Our goal is to challenge your child and help them accomplish new swim skills at their pace.

What Can I Do If My Child Is Having A Difficult Time?

Our teachers have a lot of experience with tentative or upset children. We will work to calm your child and get him or her in the pool. If you see that your child is struggling, you can speak with the Deck Supervisor and offer suggestions on how to engage your child (e.g. providing us information about their favorite toy, color, food, etc.). We will work with you to ensure their experience is a positive one!

How Does Billing Work?

We bill tuition monthly for lessons based on the number of lessons offered each month. If Brighton Swim Academy is closed in observance of a holiday on a day you normally have swim lesson, your tuition will be adjusted and pro-rated. If there are more than 4 lessons in a particular month, your tuition will be adjusted and pro-rated. The credit or debit card you have on file will auto-draft on the 24th of the month for next month’s lessons. We can not refund your card for unused lessons if you fail to inform us in writing that you are withdrawing at least 15 days in advance of your withdrawal.

Are There Any Other Fees?

There is a $40 annual family registration fee. This is an annual fee and will not be due again until the same time next year. If you are withdrawing, this fee will not be charged to your account, but will be due upon your return.

What Is The Withdrawal Policy?

You will stay enrolled in lessons until you submit a Withdrawal Form. We require a 15-day notice to withdraw from lessons so please let us know by the 15th of the month if you will not be continuing next month.
